Waystation for Monarch Butterflies

Nicholas and his helpers planted 1,000 milkweed seeds to create 10,000 square feet of monarch butterfly habitat at Loyola Academy’s Munz Campus. To prepare the land, they stripped and tilled square-foot plots every 10 feet to facilitate reproduction of milkweed for this soon-to-be endangered pollinator.

The volunteers also built a cedar bench along a walking path where walkers and joggers can stop to enjoy the beautiful bluff along the north branch of the Chicago River, and they removed harmful invasive species.
