School Retaining Wall

School Retaining Wall

Ian and his helpers built a retaining wall at a drop-off area with massive erosion problems at his old elementary school. Ian first noticed the erosion problem in first grade while going to school there. The drop-off area has massive erosion, which causes mud to flow onto the walkway. This causes kids to go the long way around the fence, which puts them at risk of being hit by speeding cars.

The project fixed both problems, as well as improved the appearance of the area. The wall was built with decorative concrete blocks, reinforced with rebar and concrete and capped with a 12’x’7 flat stone to make a bench for the children. The landscaping was re-graded to avoid future erosion and drought-tolerant native plants were planted to further control erosion.
